Indian Business Delegation Visits China Focuses on Electric Vehicles: China Has Become a Leader in Electric Vehicle Manufacturing

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in India posted on social media on the 6th that an Indian business delegation visited China for the first time in over five years, focusing on cooperation in electric vehicles, clean energy, and supply chain sectors.

According to a report in India's *Business World* on the 7th, an eight-member Indian business delegation has returned to India after a week-long study tour and business talks in China. The report stated that the visit, organized by the Indian PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, took place from March 29th to April 4th, focusing on renewable energy and electric transportation. The delegation included six Indian startups specializing in electric vehicle charging, electric trucks, battery storage, and energy trading, and their itinerary covered Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces.

During their stay in China, the Indian delegation held discussions with more than 20 Chinese companies in the renewable energy and electric vehicle industry chain.

Members of the Indian delegation stated that what impressed them most during the visit was the level of automation within Chinese factories and the vertical integration capabilities in electric vehicle and renewable energy system components. PHD CEO and Secretary General Mehta stated that China has become a global leader in renewable energy deployment, battery technology, and electric vehicle manufacturing.

CNBC reported on the 7th that since last year, China and India have been improving relations, and this visit by the Indian delegation marks a new step in the warming of bilateral ties. Richard Rosso, a senior advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told CNBC, "India realizes that due to China's leadership in areas such as rare earths, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and batteries, India will not be competitive in these emerging technology fields without a certain level of business cooperation with China."

According to observations by a special correspondent for the Global Times in India, Indian businesses strongly support sending a delegation to China, welcoming technological cooperation, joint ventures, equipment procurement, and supply chain localization. However, they also express concerns that India's high tariffs, lengthy approval processes, and policy instability may affect the progress of subsequent cooperation.

India Today emphasized that India is highly dependent on China for batteries and photovoltaic modules, making continued cooperation essential, but cautions against over-reliance and the need to protect domestic manufacturing. Furthermore, Indian financial media generally believe that China has the most complete new energy industry chain globally. If India wants to quickly establish its electric vehicle industry, it must connect with China for technology, equipment, and production capacity, because "China is the only partner that can simultaneously provide technology, equipment, industrial lines, and financing."

In fact, Chinese electric vehicles enjoy a good reputation among Indian users, and ordinary people expect further cooperation to bring more affordable car prices. Nevertheless, industry insiders told a special correspondent for the Global Times that Sino-Indian cooperation in the field of electric vehicles and new energy is generally characterized by "years of planning but limited progress," with the core issue being India's localization protection policies.
